A Biomedical Research Centre dedicated to improving the lives of people with long-term health conditions
The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is a research partnership between the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, dedicated to improving the treatment and care of people with long-term health conditions.
The NIHR Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre is a translational infrastructure set up to enable the continued development of ground-breaking, lab-based discoveries into early-stage clinical research. Our aim is to reduce the translational gap between research ideas and the development of new products, treatments and policy changes, ultimately improving patient care within our research themes.
Sheffield has held BRC status since 2016, initially dedicated to Neuroscience research before expanding to a four-themed research centre in December 2022. We have a strong focus on involving patients and the public in the design and execution of our research, as well as training the next generation of researchers through our BRC Training Academy.
