In November our new cohort of NMAHPP research interns joined us. This programme is jointly funded by the NIHR Sheffield BRC and CRF and allows NMAHPPs to dip their toes into research by undertaking a project with us over a 12-month period. Our interns are an incredible group that includes physiotherapists, nurses and clinical engineers.
To kick things off we hosted a half day training event at the Sheffield Medical School covering topics such as research governance, PPIE, research inclusion and how to create engaging posters and presentations. Some of our interns already intend to apply for NIHR pre-doctoral and doctoral fellowships following their internship and so we briefly discussed the options available and gave practical advice on submitting a successful application.
The feedback we got from the interns was overwhelmingly positive with our speakers giving them a lot to think about regarding their projects. They also appreciated the opportunity to meet their fellow interns for the first time and find out about each other’s research.
This is the first time we have run this event, and we already have ideas on how we can continue to improve the programme and host an even better event next year.
We would like to thank both our speakers and interns for helping make the day a success!
