The NIHR Sheffield BioResource Team,
Winners of the Community Impact Award
The NIHR Sheffield BioResource Team, Ruth Yedu and Amarachukwu Chike-Onyeche, won the Community Impact Award at the Band 2 – 4 Celebration and Development Day.
The NIHR Sheffield BioResource Centre is delivered by the NIHR Sheffield BRC in partnership with the NIHR Sheffield CRF. The award was given to the team in recognition of their hard work and dedication to the Improving Black Health Outcomes Programme, a programme to study health conditions affecting people from Black communities in the UK, with a view to better understanding and improved prognosis of common and rare health conditions in these communities. Ruth and Amara work extensively with many communities in Sheffield to build trusting relationships and an open communication channel to raise awareness and highlight the importance of research.
The NIHR funds, enables and delivers world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth.
NIHR Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs) are collaborations between NHS organisations and universities. They bring together academics and clinicians to translate scientific discoveries into potential new treatments, diagnostics and technologies.
